15 years ago: Miguel Indurain won the World Championship Time Trial, then in its second year of existence. Â Abraham Olano won the World Championship Road Race, 35 seconds ahead of second place Indurain. Â Heavy rains resulted in only 20 riders crossing the finish line.
Indurain’s TT win and  second place road finish is the closest anyone has come to the time trial/road race double.  His podium visits also mark the last time a reigning Tour de France yellow jersey winner medaled in the Worlds.
